A session that takes us on a journey through the ages to explore the role of music in shaping cultural identity, from ancient civilisations, through the Islamic era, and into the West. We will highlight Andalusian muwashahat, the image of the East in classical music, and the mutual influence between Eastern and Western traditions. The discussion will also address the presence of music in today’s Arab capitals and the contemporary challenges of preserving identity while embracing renewal.
